Yokohama Dance Collection R Goes EXIn 1996, [Yokohama Dance Collection] was started to nurture young choreographers and popularize contemporary dance in Japan.

In 2005, its tenth year, the festival shifted focus to building a market for dance, to bring news of Asian choreographers to the wider world.
With that transformation, it was relaunched as [Yokohama Dance Collection R].
Over the past fifteen years, this annual dance festival has steadily delivered results towards reaching all its goals.

It is time to set our sights even higher, to aim, as an established force in the world of dance, to make even greater contributions to the development of the global dance scene.

Why “EX”?
To achieve these goals, we will further develop our exchange programs, including invitations to perform overseas, and symposia, to provide exposure to promising next-generation artists. We will also establish a new prize for excellence in the next generation of young choreographers.
Exchange, explore, extension, exhibition and expression, -through them, we will attract people involved in dance from throughout the world and create exciting, excellent opportunities to share meaningful experiences together. A positive formula for excellence: that's EX.
